About
Why MultiPetabit exists
Our world is increasingly shaped by our ability to exchange information across distance.
Behind this capability lies an extraordinary physical infrastructure: networks of optical fibres, submarine cables, data centres, and communications systems connecting continents.
As our need for global connectivity grows, these systems face new scientific, engineering, economic, and environmental challenges. MultiPetabit was created to make those challenges easier to understand and explore.
We bring together public research, interactive educational tools, technical explanations, and information about the people and organizations advancing submarine communication systems. Our work focuses particularly on the evolution toward multipetabit transoceanic connectivity.
We believe meaningful technological progress begins with understanding: what already works, where the limits are, what remains uncertain, and what new approaches may become possible.
Vision
A world where geography is less of a barrier to knowledge, computing, and opportunity.
Mission
To make the future of global connectivity understandable, explorable, and open to discovery.
Principles
Scientific independence
No favouring of any supplier, technology, manufacturer or commercial interest.
Transparency
Assumptions, sources, limitations and uncertainty are stated. Educational models are never presented as engineering calculations.
Accessibility
Anyone can start learning immediately; experts should still find it useful.
Real-world relevance
Technical progress is connected to uses, economics, environment and society.
Independence
MultiPetabit is an independent research and educational initiative. Its content is based on publicly available information, transparent assumptions, and original educational explanations. References to companies, technologies, and projects do not imply endorsement or affiliation.
